What is the fastest and easiest way to transfer data from one laptop to another?

I have a laptop that I want to give to my dad. The thing is, I want to transfer all my data from that laptop onto my new laptop. Both laptops are under a year old (just fyi). I don't have an external hard drive. Can someone tell me what the fastest and easiest way to transfer over my data? Well the easiest way is if you have a wireless internet connection. then you could just set them both up to share files and then just drag and drop and bam your done. To do that, on the computer with the info click on the folder or drive for instance (C drive), right click and click on sharing and security. Then click share this folder. get a cross-over cable. it looks like a standard ethernet cable, but it is wired specially so you can just connect two computers directly. probably costs less than 10 bucks.
